3Strand was created with the vision of bridging the cracks between business, design and technology.
The idea for 3Strand was sparked while backpacking through Thailand. Here’s how it happened.
Over the years, we had been part of some of the most fascinating conversations about innovation at leading academic institutions, from MIT to Art Center College of Design to INSEAD Business School. What is innovation? How do you create it? How do you repeat it? And we noticed that there were cracks between each of these fields that, despite current efforts, still needed to be bridged. How do you connect with emerging user needs, bring them through a creative ideation process, build them into a functional and efficient product, and design a revolutionary business model around it, without losing valuable pieces in the cracks? So we were audacious enough to think that perhaps we could do it. We had worked across each of these fields already and were already used to looking at complex problems through various lenses.
While backpacking through Thailand, we received an invitation to enter an international business plan competition at INSEAD in Singapore, and thought “why not?” In between drinking mango shakes on the beach, we scrapped together a rough business plan in 3 days for the concept of 3Strand: an innovation consultancy that bridges creative, analytical and strategic thinking. We came in as finalists in the competition, and received enough interest and encouragement from international seasoned entrepreneurs to know that there was something valuable here. So we started 3Strand with four core values:
1. Dedication to multi-disciplinary problem solving
2. Focus on producing bottom-line results
3. Conviction that new business value will come from responding to human needs
4. Commitment to creating social impact on all levels: people, profit, planet
Since then, 3Strand Innovation LLC has worked in Singapore, New Delhi, Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles, finding new opportunities to create value through a holistic approach to business design.
